Female tarantulas move slowly and deliberately, but they are consummate nocturnal predators. They may sometimes appear indifferent, but these are deceptive signs. A tarantula’s place is in a universe full of captives trapped in spider webs without which it could not survive. The signs of its voracity are not felt, but seen in the gazes fixed on the next prey.
